Tabitha

Hi Community, 😊

My name is Tabitha & I'm a person in recovery.

In 2016, I found myself in the scariest place in my life -- I was pregnant and addicted to heroin. I went into a fabulous program in Louisville for pregnant women called VOA Louisville Freedom House, which is a program for mothers who struggle with addiction. Through this program, I met the ChooseWell organization. The amazing women of ChooseWell Communities showed me love and kindness, slowly helping me tear down the barriers that stood in the way of navigating my recovery process with my children.

One of those barriers was housing. They not only helped me get a housing voucher coming straight out of treatment, but they even took it a step further and went out in the community finding landlords willing to accept our families.

The #1 barrier for folks coming out of treatment is safe, clean, and affordable housing. This process is hard enough alone, but doing it with a infant was very intimidating. The ChooseWell team went above and beyond to make sure I knew I wasn't doing this alone. They helped with everything from food, to giving me rides to take my daughter to her doctor appointments for her check ups, and more. They even got a therapist on board to support me and the other families.

Today, I work in the greatest medical detox facility in our city, helping others begin their journey to a new life free from addiction.

ChooseWell Communities is a big part of why I made it -- They helped every step of the way while I slowly built a new life for myself and my daughters and became who I am today.

My family is forever grateful.

Tabitha graduated from ChooseWell in 2020!
