Teosha

My name is Teosha. I started with ChooseWell in 2017. Since then, I have learned how to live life on life's terms. When I graduated from a local residential substance abuse treatment center, I did not have anywhere safe & sober to stay, so I stayed at a shelter. ChooseWell was able to get me into my own apartment via a Section 8 housing voucher, which I was so grateful for. This gave me the opportunity to have housing in no time versus waiting on the list, which could have taken years. I got the chance to bond with more women and families going through the same things as me & learned how to cook healthy meals with the ChooseWell Chop N Chats. I appreciated how ChooseWell helped to keep me & other participants responsible & accountable with weekly programming & commitments in the Covenant.

While with ChooseWell, I met with my therapist once a week, which helped me a lot with all of the emotions I was dealing with -- especially early on in my recovery. My sponsor helped with this too. I started to build a relationship back with my daughter & let go of the heaviest guilt that I have ever felt from using during my pregnancy with my son. I learned how to be a mother again, and inspired my son's father to get & stay sober & put down the heroin forever. My sobriety means a lot to me and nobody will get in the way of that.

For newcomers entering the ChooseWell program, it is a great opportunity. Just be honest with yourself and them -- its not just about the housing, there is so much more to this community than that. What I love about ChooseWell is that they don't give up on you & are there for you when you are in any situation. After a while, you don't feel like this is 'just' a program... its gonna feel like a family.
