CWC Highlights - October 2020
Introducing Our New Community Partners - Seven Counties Services!
We are excited to announce our new community partnership with Seven Counties Services, a Community Mental Health Center with a 60-year history offering a full range of mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and intellectual and developmental disabilities services in Jefferson, Oldham, Bullitt, Shelby, Spencer, Trimble and Henry counties.
Seven Counties Services is now offering behavioral health and outpatient substance abuse treatment services to the families served by ChooseWell Communities. Together, we look forward to supporting more of Louisville's families in recovery with young children and allowing avenues for more resources, support, and long-term success and sobriety for our recovery community.
October Parent Highlight: Meet Christina!
“ChooseWell has helped enable me to live a life free of substance use, and I truly do not think I would be where I am today without the support of this organization.”
Christina has been an active participant of ChooseWell Communities since early 2018, after graduating from VOA’s Freedom House. During her first year with ChooseWell, Christina moved into her own apartment and reunified with all three of her children, returning to full time parenting. At the same time, Christina earned her Peer Support Specialist certification and gained employment at VOA in November of 2018, where she is currently employed as a Certified Adult Peer Support and Intake Specialist.
In January 2020, Christina made the decision to return to school, and is currently enrolled at Jefferson Community and Technical College. Christina plans to transfer and complete her undergraduate degree in Social Work at the University of Louisville. Due to her unwavering determination and commitment to herself and her family, December 2020 will mark her fourth year of sobriety! Christina’s long-term goals include obtaining a Master’s degree in Social Work, becoming a substance abuse therapist, buying a house, and getting married.
We are honored to be part of Christina’s journey and thrilled to see her grow as a role model for newer participants. Christina continues to set ambitious goals and achieve them, while remaining active in the recovery community and giving back to those who are in a place she once was.
