WALK THROUGH THE WILD WITH US!
Join us from 10 AM - 12:30 PM on Saturday, November 16 at the Louisville Nature Center as we celebrate a decade of incredible milestones and look forward to the next 10!
When ChooseWell Communities was founded in 2014, we couldn’t fathom the impact it would make in the lives of some of Louisville’s most vulnerable citizens. We certainly didn’t predict the substantial imprint these families would have on our dedicated staff and Board of Directors.
It's a privilege to have been invited into our participants’ lives to explore the gaps, needs, and “recovery capital” required to maintain long-term sobriety, and we certainly wouldn't have made it this far without you - our friends & supporters!
Explore the nearly two miles of trails spread across 80 acres of forest at the Louisville Nature Center. Or, spend time exploring the Sensory Garden, the imaginative Nature Play Area, and the Bird Blind. We'll also have games, live music, and free food and drink - something for the whole family.
The Walk Through the Wild provides a safe, inspirational environment for all ages and “walks” of life. Please join the growing number of friends, loved ones, and organizations committed to realizing the vision of a truly Compassionate City by participating in ChooseWell Communities’ Walk Through the Wild at the Louisville Nature Center on November 16!
this year, in honor of our 10th birthday, all tickets - regardless of age - are $10!

why Walk Through the Wild?
ChooseWell Communities' vision is that every child under the age of five is able to thrive in a home free from parental substance misuse. Unsurprisingly, children who live in safe, healthy, socially connected home environments realize more favorable outcomes in learning readiness and physical, social, and emotional health than those who don’t.
We are the only organization in Louisville providing access to long-term, permanent housing suitable for families with young children, coupled with recovery-focused coaching and support for more than three years. By keeping families together, CWC addresses a leading cause of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) with an effective, upstream response to the growing number of Kentucky children whose lives are altered by a parent’s addiction.
Thanks to your generosity over the last ten years, ChooseWell Communities’ families have met some incredible milestones, including:
31 CWC Graduates have exceeded the outcomes they envisioned when they entered CWC’s multi-year program of support and accountability.
69 children have been reunited with and/or remain safely in the custody of their parents.
49 formerly housing-insecure families are currently anchored in safe, permanent homes.
50% of CWC Graduates have achieved certification as a Peer Support Specialist and are now working in the field of recovery.
In 2023, CWC welcomed its first single fathers into the program. Currently, there are 5 dads preparing to reunite with their children.
An additional 47 families who did not meet CWC’s eligibility requirements have received programming support and essential services through CWC.
The Walk Through the Wild is ChooseWell Communities' biggest fundraiser of the year, accounting for more than 25% of the annual operating revenue. It takes a number of dedicated volunteers and upwards of $5,000 per year to provide assistance to each family - your support would allow ChooseWell Communities to continue to expand, serving up to 80 families with HUD Section 8 Vouchers and programming. Funds raised through the Walk Through the Wild allow CWC to anchor families in new recovery in safe and affordable housing while providing seamless access to community resources for vocational/educational achievement, physical and behavioral health, family well-being, and legal fees for family reunification.
